Several factors affect how long BS5837 tree work takes after the survey is done.
Access is the biggest one. Can we get a tracked chipper and a MEWP through the gate? If not, we haul waste by hand. This adds time and cost. We always visit the site because drawings do not show access constraints.
Trees close to buildings. A tree three metres from a wall cannot be felled in one piece. Sectional dismantling with ropes is slower and more methodical.
Protected trees. Before we touch anything near a Category A tree, we need method statements and approved protection measures. This adds a day or two but prevents a planning officer halting the project.
Ground conditions. Wet clay in winter is tough going. Dry summer ground is faster. Winter sites always run behind.
Ecology pauses. Nesting birds mean no work March to August. A bat roost requires a licensed surveyor. If your report flags either, the programme shifts.
