Emergency tree removal
We remove fallen trees for homeowners, farmers and site managers across the region. We cut the tree up where it lies, take the timber and brash away, and leave the site clean. If a tree has come down on your land, send us photos and we will tell you what is involved and what it costs.
What to do when a tree falls
Do not stand under a fallen tree, and keep children and vehicles away from it. A tree that has come down can still be under tension, and the root plate can settle or shift without warning. If the tree is against a building, a vehicle, a road or a power line, treat it as urgent and call us straight away.
Send photos of the tree, where it has fallen and the access route. That lets us assess the job before we arrive and bring the right equipment. Send them by email or WhatsApp. Do not try to cut the tree up yourself. A chainsaw on a tree under tension is one of the most dangerous jobs there is.
How we remove a fallen tree
We decide the method after looking at the tree. The size, the position and what the tree is lying on or against all matter. Most fallen trees are cut up where they lie and the sections moved clear.
- On-ground sectioning
- The tree is cut into manageable sections on the ground and moved clear. This is the method for most fallen trees, and the fastest where there is room to work.
- Winching and pulling
- Where the tree is heavy, wedged or lying over a bank, we use a winch to pull sections clear under control before they are cut up.
- Crane or MEWP lifts
- Where a tree has fallen against a building or across a roof, we lift sections with a crane or a mobile elevated work platform so nothing shifts while it is cut.
- Stump grinding
- The stump and root plate can be ground out after the tree is cleared, so the ground is level and usable. Priced separately from the removal.
We remove all the waste from the site as part of the job. If you want, we leave logs cut to length for firewood and woodchip for mulch. The written quote states what will be removed and what will be left.
Tree preservation orders and conservation areas
We check the Tree Preservation Order register and Conservation Area boundaries for every property before we remove anything. A TPO protects a standing tree. Once a tree has fallen, the order does not normally stop us removing it. If part of the tree is still standing, or the tree is in a conservation area, restrictions can still apply.
We confirm what is needed and handle the paperwork. You do not need to contact the council's tree officer yourself. Where a dangerous tree needs urgent work, we document the condition and give notice to the council as the rules require.
Insurance and cover
We carry £10 million public liability insurance, so you are covered if anything is damaged while we work. Every job gets a site-specific risk assessment, and we work to a method statement for the tree and its position. If you are claiming on your own buildings or contents policy, we supply the documentation your insurer needs.
Emergency tree removal
If a tree has fallen on your land, we remove it across County Durham and North Yorkshire. The price depends on the tree itself, where it has fallen, the access, what it is lying on, and whether the stump is ground out.
We price from a site visit, not from photos alone. The visit is free and the quote is fixed in writing before work starts, so the price does not change halfway through the job. No hidden costs.
Urgent tree work
If a tree has fallen on a building, across a road or over a public footpath, call us now. We assess the situation from your photos and prioritise the job by risk. A tree blocking a site access at 7am is dealt with differently from one lying in a field. We get to the jobs that are stopping people use their property first.
Qualifications and cover. NPTC qualified. LANTRA qualified. £10M public liability insurance. TPO and Conservation Area checks before work, paperwork handled. Written quote before any work begins.
What customers ask
Common questions
How much does fallen tree removal cost?
The size of the tree, where it has fallen, the access, and whether you want the stump ground out all affect the price. We give a fixed written quote after a free site visit. No hidden costs.
Is fallen tree removal covered by insurance?
Buildings and contents policies sometimes cover removal where a tree has damaged property or blocked access, but cover varies by policy. If you are claiming, we supply the documentation your insurer needs.
Do I need permission to remove a fallen tree?
A TPO protects a standing tree, so it does not normally stop us removing one that has already fallen. If part of the tree is still standing, or the tree is in a conservation area, restrictions can still apply. We check and handle the paperwork.
How quickly can you start?
Urgent jobs, such as a tree on a building or blocking a road or site access, are prioritised. We assess the situation from your photos and confirm a start time. Other jobs are booked to a date you agree.
What if the tree has fallen on my house or a vehicle?
Do not try to move it. If the tree is against a building, we assess whether it is safe to work on before anything is cut, then remove it in sections under control. Tell us if a vehicle is involved and we will work around it.
Do you grind the stump as well?
Yes. Stump grinding is priced separately from the removal. We can quote for both together or leave the stump for another day. The written quote states what is included.
